Hopper

Hopper is our newly built building. The 513 bed suite-style residence hall is now our largest traditional residence hall building on main campus. It replaces the former Hopper Hall which housed 200 students in a traditional, double-loaded corridor facility. Hopper will house all upperclassmen, and there are 13 highly trained RAs to make your VSU experience one of the best. Hopper has a center-front position on main campus and houses the university’s main offices: such as a state-of-the-art residential dining facility, the campus mail center, and the Dean of Students and Student Life Offices.The building’s centralized front desk is staffed 24/7.

In addition, VSU’s college radio station, WVVS, and the student newspaper, The Spectator, will find its permanent home in the new facility. Students living in the new facility will enjoy suite-style setups with laundry/vending facilities and recreational rooms on each floor. A technologically advanced classroom on the first floor will host academic courses designed for the population of the building.

Hopper Hall is equipped with 1 meeting room, 1 “smart” classroom, 5 community rooms, and 7 study rooms to meet the needs of students.

 

The original facility, dedicated in November 1966, was named in honor of Annie Powe Hopper, who served as dean of women from 1923-1943. The two-story facility was constructed at a cost of $705,391 and housed 200 women.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the replacement of Hopper Hall was held on June 24, 2008. Guests included Dr. Zaccari (President), Mr. Robert Kellner (Director: Auxiliary Services), Director of Housing and Residence Life, Dr. Thomas Hardy, representatives from the University System of Georgia, state legislators, university officials, students, and members of the community. The Hopper Replacement project was completed for the 2008-2009 academic year.
