Graduate Assistant-Residential Facilities

The Graduate Assistant is a ten-month assistantship with the Office of Housing and Residence Life.  Reporting to the Residential Facilities Coordinator, the Graduate Assistant provides administrative support in a central office setting.  The Graduate Assistant works with the Residential Facilities Coordinator in supervision of the Student Facility Assistants, performing weekly walkthroughs of all residential facilities, and submitting/following up with work orders.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required with some experience in facilities maintenance and/or housekeeping. Graduate Assistants must be accepted to the Valdosta State University Graduate School and be enrolled full time.  Preference is given to students enrolled in academic programs that will support a two-year commitment to the Housing Facilities Program at VSU. 

Responsibilities

  1. Under supervision of the Residential Facilities Coordinator, assists in supervision of the Student Facilities Assistants.
  2. Assists RFC with implementation of electronic inventorying/inspection procedures.
  3. Assists RFC with initiating minor improvement projects in residential facilities.
  4. Assists with maintaining inventory of furniture and fixtures.
  5. Monitors condition/cleanliness of outdoor, classroom, lobby, study, lounge, and game room furnishings and fixtures in residence halls and, reports to RFC any need for upholstery and/or structural repairs. 
  6. Trains and instructs Student Facilities Assistants on proper techniques for cleaning common area furnishings
  7. Monitors exterior entrances/patios of residence halls and initiates pressure washing as needed.
  8. Meets weekly with the RFC to report ongoing/unresolved maintenance problems in residence halls.
  9. Participates and assists with fall and spring training workshops.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation

A stipend of $7000.00 is paid in ten monthly installments of $700. Tuition and out-of-state fees are waived for graduate assistants.
