What you need to know about your Housing Contract?

  • There is a $25 application fee that is non-refundable.
  • There is a $300 housing deposit that guarantees your room for the entire academic year. The deposit is a one time fee that will be refunded to the student once they decide to no longer live on campus or upon graduation.
  • Your residence hall contract is for the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters - August-May). Apartment contracts are for the entire year (12 months/August to end of Summer Term)
  • If you decide to move off campus during the year, you may cancel the contract by paying 50% of the remaining value of the contract and forfeiting the deposit. For example, if you decide to move to an off-campus apartment for spring semester, the $300 deposit will NOT be refunded and you will be charged 50% of the spring semester housing fee.
  • If student requesting release is a continuing freshman at Valdosta State University, the Freshman Residency Exemption Form must also be completed and approved.
  • You may request a release from your housing contract with refund and no penalty if you are graduating, suffering from an illness or injury which requires withdrawal from the university, or participating in a VSU off-campus program (e.g. cooperative education, internship, exchange).
  • If you are not assigned a roommate, you may be given the opportunity to keep the room private and not be assigned a roommate for the remainder of the term. There is an additional $400 charge per semester for a private room. Private rooms are offered based on space availability.
  • During the breaks between semesters, Thanksgiving break and spring break the residence halls will be closed.
  • Summer term is a separate contract period and an additional contract must be completed to obtain housing for the summer.
  • If you do not turn in your room key when you check-out at the end of each term, you will be charged $50 for a lost key.
  • If you do not follow the check-out procedures at the end of each term or when you vacate the room, you will be charged $25 for an improper check-out.
