Summer 2008 Newsletter - Please read to find out more details regarding moving into the residence halls in August!

Attention currently assigned students:

Please be advised that a few students with current room assignments received a waitlist email that encouraged them to complete the freshmen residency exemption form and consider off campus apartments as alternate housing as they were not assigned as of yet. This email was in error so please ignore this announcement.  If parents or students need extra assurance, please visit this website and verify your assignment that was first released on the 16th. Housing and Residence Life sincerely apologizes for this mishap and will be taking steps to ensure this is not repeated.

Fall 2008 Housing Wait list Process

The Office of Housing and Residence Life reserved approximately 1550 spaces for new VSU students and 850 spaces for current VSU students for 2008-2009. All the returning student spaces were claimed during room selection in March, all the freshman male and transfer (both gender) spaces were claimed as of early May and all the freshman females were claimed as of early June, therefore we began the wait list process for all students. All students who have not applied to Housing yet may apply online to be on the wait list via this link http://www.valdosta.edu/it/eas/sis/. (Note: Once there, click on “Student & Financial Aid” and they should see the “Apply For Housing” link below the “View Housing Information” link when using Banner self-service.) Students may also call us to be placed on the wait list anytime during our office hours or send us an email at housing@valdosta.edu. Online application for the wait list will have a higher priority number (thus be called sooner) than ones called or emailed to the office. There is no charge to be placed on the wait list.

Students placed on the wait list will be able to find out their status by calling or emailing Housing and Residence Life at (229) 333-5920 or housing@valdosta.edu. There is no guarantee that being on a wait list will ultimately result in an offer to move; however, Housing will work until opening to fill all students on the wait list who still desire a 2008-2009 placement. Wait list room offers will be made via phone call and/or email sent to your valdosta.edu email address. You only have 24 hours to accept an offer from the time it is sent, so please review your messages and/or email frequently.

Wait list students who are offered a space and accept the offer must submit their application packet with a complete application, a signed residence hall contract, and payment for $325 ($300 serves as a refundable deposit after all outstanding debts to VSU are accounted for and the residents permanently checks out of Housing) by the stated time in the phone call and/or email. Names of residents who accept a new space are removed from the wait list. Residents who refuse an offered space or fail to respond within 24 hours after notification will have their name removed from the wait list. Note: There are not separate wait lists per hall, there is one master wait list per classification (freshman, transfer, upperclass, etc.) and in order to expedite placement you may not choose to remain on the wait list for a preferred spot. It is to your advantage to claim any spot offered and potentially room change to your desired spot in the fall.

In extreme cases, the Office of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to make an administrative room change into a vacant space, independent of the wait list, when it deems such a change necessary.
